Volunteer

Want to spend some time assisting at Newman or perhaps doing humanitarian, social justice, educational, or environmental work around the Bay?

We’ve got some resources for you here. Let us know if you learn of some organizations that are seeking volunteer help.

Help with Masses

We’d love to have

Lectors to read a Mass

Eucharistic Ministers to serve Communion

Sacristans to set up for the Mass and clean up afterwards

Slide advancers to make sure that people can read the prayers and sing the lyrics at the right moments

Chapel cleaners to sweep and dust the chapel

Mass Linen preparers to wash and iron the cloths used during the Mass

We’d love to have your help.. these tasks are performed by volunteers.

Have you taken an opportunity to pitch in?

Perhaps now is the time?

Help with mass

Diocese of Oakland

The Diocese is looking for married couples to facilitate their Pre Marriage Preparation Program

If you have been married for at least 2 years and you have a passion to share the good news of the Sacrament of Marriage with other couples, please contact Karen Flores, Coordinator for Marriage and Family Life at the Diocese of Oakland. They are looking to strengthen the Diocesan team. Whether you’ve facilitated Marriage Prep before or not, you are welcome; we just need your passion and love for this Sacrament. We will provide training on the newest methodology declared by The Dicastery of Laity, Family and Life from the Vatican.

When a billion people go hungry each day, how can we spend another dollar on war?

Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer movement that recovers food that would other wise be discarded, and shares free vegan and vegetarian meals with the hungry in over 1,000 cities around the world in protest towar, poverty, and the destruction of the environment.

We also provide food and supplies to the survivors of natural disasters, and people participating in occupations, strikes, marches and other protests. FoodNotBombs is not a charity but seeks to end the crisis of corporate domination and exploitation through nonviolent direct action so no one is forced to stand in line to eat at a soup kitchen or live in the streets.

We have no formal leaders and strives to include everyone in our consensus decision-making process. Each group recovers food that would otherwise be discarded; prepares fresh hot vegan and vegetarian meals that are shared in visible public spaces to everyone without restriction; and distributes groceries, clothing and other supplies with the community.
