Refugee Welcome Ministry

In response to our pope's and bishop's call to respond to the refugee crisis in our world, Newman Hall-Holy Spirit Parish has formed a Refugee Welcome Ministry.  We have collected funds and supplies from the parish to be able to sponsor a refugee family in conjunction with Catholic Charities of the East Bay.

To find out more information, contact Tom at

To financially support the ministry, a check to Newman Hall with "Refugee Ministry" in the memo field, can be dropped off at the receptionist desk or electronic payment can be made with our e-giving, FaithDirect.  Just donate to the "Refugee Welcome Ministry" fund.

: Our 4 young adult siblings continue to make progress in their transition from life in the Middle East (Iraq/
Turkey) to their new home on 48th Ave. in Oakland. The middle boy -
Wisam - got his Driver’s License and is working full time for an emergency road service company. The twins (‘AD’ and Tabarak) are attending Fremont High in Oakland. And - Zainab - the oldest, had until recently been working for a local insurance agent. She is now enrolled in ESL classes. On March 12th the Refugee and Hospitality Committees of the Parish co-sponsored a ‘welcome’ dinner for the family, and a good time was had by all. The family expressed their thanks and appreciation for all the help the Newman community continues to provide.
