| His Hands and Feet Ministry |
Responding to the challenge of the New Testament to "be kind and compassionate to one another," His Hands and Feet Ministry has been created. The vision of the ministry calls for the parishioners of Holy Spirit Parish to become Christ for one another. This vision dovetails beautifully with the mission of the parish which encourages us to make the promise and challenge of the Gospel and the Catholic tradition a tangible reality in our own lives and in the lives of the members of the university community, the residents of the parish, and those drawn to us by the movement of God's grace.
The goals of the ministry are:
In order to enhance the faith life of our community we are asking each of you to search your hearts and spend some time in quiet reflection to discern in which ways you could serve our faith community. Each week our brothers and sisters of faith are seated next to us at Mass, sometimes with heavy hearts, bearing stress, loneliness, illness, marital strife, financial hardships and many other concerns that keep them from living joyfully in the spirit of the Lord. The goal is to use our talents, gifts, special interests and hobbies to be of service to them.
As parishioners communicate needs, either directly to the ministry, or through the Newman staff, the ministry will email a general description of the need to parishioners who have indicated a desire to be of assistance. Those responding positively will be "assigned" to assist the individual/family in need. Every effort will be made to keep personal details of all parties confidential.
Parishioners in need or who are vulnerable are a blessing to the community. Only when a need is identified is another parishioner able to use their God-given talents/skills to respond. Needs may be communicated to the ministry using the e-mail address below, or to a Newman staff member.
Parishioners hearing the call to be of service need only complete an Interest Card. If you have specific talents/gifts to offer, just list them. If you prefer to respond to specific needs, you will receive periodic emails detailing the various requests received by the ministry.
You may communicate with the ministry by completing a "Request for Assistance" card, via email, by phone at (510) 848-7812, or by talking to a staff member.
