    Songs From the Soul

    Quotations to stir heart and mind.

    J.S.BACH (1738):
    The ultimate end of all music ...shall be nothing other than the glory of God and the recreation of the soul.

    BERNICE REAGON JOHNSON:
    Singing transforms us, even heals us. You cannot sing a song and not change your condition.

    HILDEGARDE OF BINGEN:
    Singing the words reveals their true meaning directly to the soul through bodily vibrations.

    DAVID STEINL-RAST:
    To listen to the music or to sing...is to do something that has no practical purpose; it is just celebration and praise; it is just tasting of the joy and beauty of life, the glory of God.

    HUUB OOSTERHUIS:
    Singing...is born at times when there is no other possible way for people to express themselves - at the grave, for example, when... people... sing words that are greater and smaller than their faith and their experience.

    ROBERT LOWRY:
    My life flows on in endless song;
    Above earth's lamentation
    I hear the sweet though far off hymn
    That hails a new creation:
    Through all the tumult and the strife
    I hear the music ringing;
    It finds and echoes in my soul -
    How can I keep from singing?

    A few of the favorite inspirations of ...

    Director of Music & Liturgy
